This week's album of the week comes from UK indie rockers Foals.
Holy Fire, the band's third album, is bigger, bolder, and far more cohesive than past efforts and is the sound of a band finally finding their feet. Starting off with the instrumental track Prelude, Holy Fire quickly changes gear as it seamlessly segues into the gritty industrial rock of lead single Inhaler and its follow up (and current single) the more pop-based My Number. From there, the album delves into panoramic, stadium-sized anthems that have the right mix of brazen melody and restrained bluster, the perfect backing to lead singer Yannis Philippakis' emotive and wide-reaching lyrics about death, sex, redemption, and destruction. One of the first great albums of 2013.
