ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Atoms For Peace

This week's album of the week comes from Thom Yorke's latest side project Atoms For Peace.

The band consists of Yorke, alongside Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, and Mauro Refosco, and Amok is the collective's debut album. Sonically positioning itself somewhere between Yorke's previous solo album (The Eraser) and Radiohead's last album (King Of Limbs), Amok is the sound of Yorke and co. pushing the envelope, experimenting with sounds that perhaps the constriction of being in their other bands wouldn't allow. Current single Judge, Jury & Executioner is typical of the sound of Amok with its uneven tempo, skittering beats, subtle guitar melodies, and Yorke's trademark mumbling, yet haunting, falsetto. It is an album standout, as is the more soulful Stuck Together Pieces. A stunning album that fills the gap between Radiohead albums very nicely indeed. Amok hits retail on February 25.
